Part I - The Drawing

Each design begins as a drawing or painting. Once I have the proportions and placement of each element - sometimes one draft, other times 12 - I transfer the drawing to a piece of linoleum.

Part II - The Carving

Once the elements are transferred I begin by carving the outer line of each. Then the lino is painted black so that the shapes are easily noted and I can see where I've carved, and what bits still need some finessing. Carving is my most favorite form of meditation - so easy to get lost in the process.

Part III - The Printing.

From here the color options are limitless. Darks, lights, multiple shades. It can get a bit overwhelming trying to decide on a defined palette, but I manage.
